POSITION:                 

World Languages for Global Citizenship: Teacher

Multiple positions available

Office of Multilingual Learners

LOCATION:                

School location as well as online platforms

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:          

  • New York City Department of Education licensed and appointed secondary teacher: World Languages/LOTE
  • Teaching World Languages courses during the 2024-2025 School Year  

 

SELECTION CRITERIA: 

  • Reading, writing, and oral proficiency in Spanish, French, or Mandarin
  • Three (3) years of satisfactory professional experience  
  • Preference for experience in teaching Checkpoint A courses
  • Skilled at building community among students
  • Good organizational and administrative skills, including ability to meet deadlines
  • Proficient in using digital tools (e.g. Google Docs, Google Classroom, Zoom, Google Meet)
  • Experienced in proficiency-based teaching aligned to 2021 NYS World Languages standards 
  • Experience with backwards design
  • Excellent interpersonal and written communication skills

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Per session personnel will perform the following tasks under the direction of the project supervisor:  

  • Plans engaging lessons and units utilizing key resources and templates provided by OML
  • Create instructional resources for other NYCPS World Language teachers in Spanish, French, and Mandarin (simplified Chinese)
  • Attends monthly collaborative learning sessions as outlined in the schedule
  • Regularly provide qualitative data and feedback through student surveys, student work, reflection activities, and discussions for inquiry cycle
  • Collaboratively plans for systems and structures to provide a safe, effective, student-centered learning environment that fosters students’ learning as global citizens
  • Pilots lessons and surveys with students, bringing student work for collaborative discussion
  • Communicates updates and evidence on planning to OML and expert consultants
  • Additional responsibilities as needed

 

WORK SCHEDULE:   

HOURS UP TO, BUT NOT LIMITED TO APPROXIMATELY 30 hours per teacher

  • Fall 2024-June 2025

 

March 2025: Up to 12 hours for student auditions July- August 2025: Up to 25 sessions, up to 6 hours per day, between the hours of 8:15 AM and 3:15 PM, Monday through Friday. Additional evening hours for performances may be scheduled, up to 150 hours per position.

 

Note: As program is subject to funding, all dates, times, and hours to be confirmed

 

SALARY:                  

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement).  Contingent Upon Funding Availability.
