POSITION:

TEACHERS: Teacher Recruiter with the Office of Teacher Recruitment & Quality (TRQ), Division of Human Resources 

Up to 20 positions available   

 

LOCATION:

Multiple locations across the City, including local colleges/university campuses, and remote via online platforms   

 

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

New York City Department of Education (NYCDOE) licensed and appointed teacher for the 2024-2025 school year. 

Minimum of 2 years of full-time classroom experience, in at least one of the following certification areas: 

  • Arts 
  • Bilingual Education  
  • Birth – 2 or Pre-K – 6 Childhood Education 
  • Career & Technical Education (CTE) 
  • Mathematics  
  • Physical Education 
  • Science 
  • Spanish (Foreign/World Language) 
  • Students with Disabilities 

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

  • Demonstrated proficiency as a Teacher Recruiter for the 2023-2024 school year (preferred).   
  • Pursued initial teaching certification through a traditional teacher preparation program (preferred).   
  • Demonstrated (2) years of satisfactory experience in the current position and other per-session activities.   
  • Passionate, reflective, and collaborative educator who has a positive impact on student learning.   
  • Desire to inspire prospective teacher candidates to apply for the opportunity to teach in NYCDOE schools.   
  • Effective and engaging communicator; comfortable with public speaking.   
  • Ability to articulate experiences as an NYC public school teacher in a compelling way.   
  • Ability to learn and share information about pathway options as well as application and hiring processes.   
  • Strong interpersonal skills.   

 

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Work closely with the Office of Teacher Recruitment and Quality to inspire and inform prospective teachers through various methods such as in-person presentations, online events, and phone and email outreach.    
  • Conduct in-person and virtual information sessions to prospective teachers at assigned local colleges/universities.   
  • Conduct phone and email outreach to students and faculty at assigned colleges/universities.   
  • Participate in online webinars (Teacher Chats) to provide insights and anecdotes about the profession to prospective teachers.   
  • Provide support with the preparation and execution of in-person presentations, online events and phone outreach to achieve target attendance goals.   
  • Identify and develop relationships with student groups at assigned local colleges/universities to cultivate students to apply and teach with NYCPS  
  • Participate in biweekly phone conferences with a TRQ Recruitment team member to provide status updates and progress toward specific goals.   
  • Participate in virtual meetings with a TRQ Recruitment team member.   
  • Provide support to Teacher Recruitment team members during teacher candidate selection.   
  • Create social media posts and video content to inspire candidates to apply to teach for the NYCPS.  
  • Participate in an exit interview and survey upon completion of role.   
  • Attend orientation and training sessions.   

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

  • December 2024 – June 2025: 2-10 hours per month, for events and related activities.   
  • Various dates and times, including after school, evenings, and weekends. Schedules will be determined by need and availability. Up to 10 hours per month; additional hours granted upon the hiring manager's approval.   

 

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
