POSITION:
PSAL Badminton Coach – Fall Season
LOCATION:
30Q286 Young Women’s Leadership School of Astoria
23-15 Newtown Ave, Astoria, NY 11102
ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
- Licensed Physical Education Teacher
- Licensed Teacher – NYS Certified in Physical Education
- All applicants must possess current First Aid Certification that meets NYS Commissioner of Education First Aid Requirements for coaches:
- First Aid Course (8 hours) given through the PSAL , and the
- Emergency First Aid Care and Prevention of Athletic injuries course (6-8 hours)
- Note: Within three years, must complete required coaching Certification courses for non-Physical Education teachers
- All applicants must be certified in First Aid, CPR/AED and concussion
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Applicant should provide satisfactory evidence of Eligibility requirements, as stated above,
- Knowledge, experience and success in coaching particularly at Secondary school level and in the sport indicated in position title
- Excellent attendance record
- Experience in working with students, staff and parents
- Attend, coordinate and supervise student activities after school, evenings and weekends
- Demonstrate excellent organizational skills
- Excellent record of attendance and punctuality
- Demonstrates proficiency in written and oral communication
- Demonstrates ability to get along with staff and administrators
- Demonstrates professionalism
DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Assist Principal in the organization, administration and supervision of all PSAL sports programs
- Responsible for administrating all policies and procedures, working within the confines of the Rules and By-Laws of the PSAL
- Attend all home athletic contests and/or arrange for proper supervision of home athletic contests by administrative personnel
- Responsible for the observation of coaches, players, officials and spectators at practices and games
- Evaluate programs constantly and always seeking ways of improving interscholastic athletics
- Encourage good sportsmanship, respect for others, and self-discipline
- Responsible for checking the accuracy of the Athletic Insurance Book for each team and ensuring proper submission of accident and/or claim forms
- Responsible for all athletic insurance and accident report
WORK SCHEDULE:
- Fall 2024-Winter 2025, TBD
- Specific hours and schedules are not guaranteed. Schedule, location and hours to be determined and will remain subject to change based on project and funding availability.
Hours up to, but not limited to the approximate number of hours listed. Additional hours may be granted upon the approval of the hiring manager.
SALARY:
Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
