POSITION:

Teachers

20 NYC middle school or high school social studies teachers from the Summer Institute

ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:

Must be a high school or middle school certified and appointed social studies teacher. Must have participated in the summer institute.

 

SELECTION CRITERIA:

The Constitution Works (TCW) is a comprehensive study of our Federal Court system and the First Amendment. This program is open to all high school and middle social studies teachers teaching American History, PIG, government, law, and other related classes. Must have attended the 3 day summer program. . Must be willing to implement instructional materials and lessons from the summer sessions. Must be willing to have students participate in the performance- based assessment (mock Supreme Court role play hearing).

 

At least three (3) years of satisfactory (Highly Effective/Effective) experience within the NYCDOE.”

 

DUTIES/RESPONSIBILITIES:

Teachers will be responsible for attending the 6-hour Saturday professional development session; must agree to use TCW materials in the classroom and must have students participate in a culminating mock Supreme Court hearing. Free class sets of materials will be provided. Teachers and students will be invited to the U.S. Federal Bankruptcy Court for the Eastern District, where JRC staff will facilitate your student's mock Supreme Court hearing. Teachers will be required to attend follow-up sessions during the school year. This TCW PD will focus on the free speech and freedom to peacefully assemble clauses of the First Amendment of the US Constitution. 

 

WORK SCHEDULE:

Saturday session November 2024.

 

SALARY:

Per Session rates as per the relevant union/organization of the advertised title (Collective Bargaining Agreement). Contingent upon funding availability and programmatic approval.
