POSITION:
Committee on Special Education (CSE) Social Workers (numbers of positions to be determined)
LOCATION:
District CSEs citywide, location TBD
ELIGIBILITY:
-Currently appointed Social Workers OR New York State Certification in School Social Worker
-Three-year position; current CSE school psychologists and social workers may reapply and be selected
For additional terms the same as all other applicants.
SELECTION CRITERIA:
- Experience evaluating the emotional, social, cognitive, and educational development of students
- Knowledge of assessment strategies and tools
- Ability to communicate effectively with families, agencies, and school personnel
- Knowledge of the continuum of services, the special education process, regulations of the NYSED Commissioner, regulations of the NYCPS Chancellor
- Knowledge of due process
- Satisfactory rating for three (3) consecutive years
- Three (3) years of experience working on a school-based CSE team
After interviewing applicants that meet the selection criteria above, the following applicants will be considered:
- Regularly appointed and tenured
- Regularly appointed and not tenured
- New applicants to the New York City Public Schools
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Evaluate students in the areas of cognitive, social, emotional, and educational competencies
- Conduct formal and informal assessments, including classroom observations at various CPSE/CSE locations, non-public, parochial, charter or public schools, and agencies
- Prepare written reports of aforementioned assessment results
- Provide consultation on all matters relating to cognitive, social, emotional, and educational competencies of students referred for evaluation and/or receiving services to CPSE/CSE, non-public, parochial, charter or public-school staff, families, and other agencies
- Develop IEPs
- Serve as district representative at CSE meetings
- Participate in CPSE/CSE meetings at various CPSE/CSE locations, non-public, parochial, charter or public schools, and agencies
- Coordinate CPSE/CSE activities with various NYCPS/NYC offices, non-public, parochial, charter or public schools, and other agencies
- Serve as a resource to CPSE/CSE staff, school staff, families, and agencies
- Participate in these activities at the CPSE/CSE, non-public, parochial, charter, public schools, and/or other locations
- Represent the NYCPS at due process hearings
- Perform other duties as assigned by the CSE chairperson, in accordance with UFT

As per UFT Collective Bargaining Agreement
