Job Description: 

We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate School Guidance Counselor to join our team. The ideal candidate will be passionate about supporting students in their personal and academic development, providing guidance in decision-making, and helping them achieve their goals.


Eligibility: 

Preference may be given to candidates with Alternate Learning Center Experience.


Selection Criteria:

  • Satisfactory ratings
  • Valid NY state certification as a School Counselor.
  • Experience working with students in an educational setting.
  • Demonstrated success in working collaboratively with professional staff.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Excellent oral and written communication and interpersonal skills.
  • Commitment to continuous Professional Learning.
  • Highly organized
  • Ability to build rapport with students, families, and staff.
  • Knowledge of counseling techniques and resources.
  • Satisfactory attendance and punctuality for three years.


Duties and Responsibilities: 

The School Guidance Counselor will work with students to remove barriers to retention and educational advancement. Responsibilities will include:

  • Provide individual and group counseling to students regarding academic, career, and social-emotional issues.
  • Develop and implement programs that promote student well-being and success.
  • Collaborate with teachers, parents, and administrators to support student needs.
  • Conduct assessments and evaluations to identify student strengths and areas for growth.
  • Facilitate workshops on topics such as college and career readiness, stress management, conflict resolution, Respect for All, etc.
  • Maintain accurate and confidential student records.
  • Stay updated on educational trends and resources available for students.

Salary: 

As per the UFT collective bargaining agreement
